Legionella Risk Assessment

Do I need a Legionella Risk Assessment?

legionella testingIf you are responsible for a hot and cold water system then you have a legal obligation under current Health and Safety to assess whether there is a risk posed by exposure to legionella, from hot and cold water systems or any work associated with it.

Who’s responsibility is it to have a Legionella Risk Assessment undertaken?

As an employer, or person in control of premises, you must appoint someone competent to help you meet your health and safety duties and to take responsibility for controlling any identified risk from exposure to legionella bacteria. A competent person, often known as the responsible person, is someone with sufficient authority, competence, necessary skills, knowledge of the system, and experience.

The BSI British Standard BS7592:2008 Sampling for Legionella Bacteria in water systems is the code of practice that needs to be adhered to by law.  Your Legionella Risk assessment is the first requirement of your continued management of water hygiene and safety, so it is of paramount importance that it is carried out to the highest standard.

Mawdsleys Pumps Legionella Risk Assessment

Our risk assessor will consider all aspects of the operation of hot and cold water systems. We will specify the various control measures, how to use and carry out those measures, describe the water treatment regimes and the correct operation of the water system. We will identify a management structure, provide up-to-date schematic plans showing the layout of the system and its location within and around the premises. We will identify remedial action to be taken to reduce the risk, and leave you with an ongoing management system. The Legionella Management System will delegate duties to ensure that the necessary precautionary measures are maintained, and levels of responsible authority will be laid down.

At Mawdsleys Pump Services we have fully trained surveyors who undertake the necessary risk assessments to ensure compliance with the Health & Safety Commission Approved Code of Practice: Legionnaires disease the control of legionella bacteria in water systems.  Your risk assessment is presented as a report which includes images and an easy to understand action list for those with the statutory duty, enabling them to prioritise the work required to control legionella.

As part of our service offering, we can carry out cold water tank maintenance including repair and replacement of essential pipework.
